We all need to practice things we want to develop, especially if these are new or unfamiliar. We can't expect to run a marathon unless we get up off our comfy couch and start running. We need to start by running around the block, then gradually increasing our distance until we're where we want to be. It's the same with compassion. The science of compassion is now clear, we can train our minds in certain ways that will facilitate and strengthen our ability to access compassion. And there are a whole host of benefits, for our mental and physical health, our relationships and our lives.
